The end of 2005 seems to be a popular time for the abandonment of old tech. IE5/Mac, OS/2, and now NeXT's user group.
I got to use a NeXT Cube a few years back - you can see the ideas OS X incorporated quite readily in NextStep. Amazing OS for it's time, and it's what TimBL created the web on!
