A great article about the U.S.'s major competing news sites. Turns out CNN.com staffs about 250 people while MSNBC.com staffs 175. As for Newsvine, we're content with 5 for now. :)

At the end of the day how much do those 250, or 175 people achieve on a daily basis? What do the 5 of you achieve? And best of all I get to interact with you all (through the machine known as Calvin) directly; instead of talking to 100 of 175 people who never do pass a message to the one small team working because "they look busy".

Congratulations guys; you fixed the leak ;)

The difference is that the 5 people on Newsvine aren't crawling around in places like Iraq as the primary source of the news.

@Gahgah I don't think we are on the same page here. I believe the article is referring to the web staff, not the reporters.

It's not a proper comparison because CNN.com and Newsvine are completely different types of animals. All the content on CNN.com is created by CNN staff, whereas the Newsvine staff don't create any content at all. Thus they do not need a staff of 250 people.

CNN.com uses some of their own material but they are as likely -if not more likely- to use AP and Reuters wires along with other wire sources.

Even when they have their own reporting, they sometimes simply use the AP feed because it's already formatted and ready to go. My gut feeling is that CNN.com is mostly wire feeds these days.

What do you mean "for now"? Does that mean you'll be hiring soon? Where do I send my credentials? ;)

What do you mean newsvine? You mean we are not part of your staff? I'm offended! I thought we were family! ;)

I'll take the Newsvine Five. You get your choice of five from CNN and MSNBC. Now let's race...

Oops! Too late. First one with a clue wins.

(*VBG* would go here, but I don't do emoticons. Heh.)
