A BusinessWeek writer's account of life in the massively multiplayer game "Second Life". I need to check this out.

If it hadn't been for my lack of cutting-edge computer gear, I'd probably be there right now. I have 3 friends that frequent Second Life... we all used to run the largest, most fully developed non-commercial virtual world in activeworlds.com which was named !Friends World. It was a world filled with islands, beaches, the sea, mountains, and various user-built content. I used a raven avatar while I was there, and actually felt what it was like to be a bird walking on roof tops. It was very cool. Second Life is very much advanced from activeworlds, though... much better technology.
One of my former colleagues now works for Second Life as their public liason, and she's a wonderful virtual builder and modeller (one who constructs 3-D objects for use in-world). If you see someone named Char or Stellar, that's her. Tell her Aine said "Hi". :)

Second Life is a blast, but it can easily take over your life if you're not careful. I had to kick the habit this semester to have any chance of remaining somewhat productive.
Although, a Newsvine area that pulled in content from the site inside Second Life would be pretty pimp. Adam Curry said on his podcast that he bought a Podshow castle / coastline which he's planning on streaming audio from Podshow podcasts into - something similar for Newsvine would be sweet.
